Nakuru High to host selection trials for International Schools Federation World Championship

Learners going for the International Schools Federation World Championship will be required to bring along their birth certificates.

The cross-country team selection trials for the 2024 International Schools Federation World Championship will be held at Nakuru High School.

The Ministry of Education has organised the team selection trials to be held from March 27 to 28, 2024 in Nakuru. 

Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang in a circular on Wednesday called on interested learners to go for the trials. 

The 2024 Regional Champions in cross country will have six learners per category.

The first category is for under 12 both boys and girls. Then there is under 15 for both genders and under 18 for both boys and girls. 

Belio urged all Regional Directors of Education to fast-track the Cross-country Championships calendar to allow for the availability of the team for their National duty.

"The top 10 finishers in each category will qualify for confirmation Into Team Kenya," Belio said. 

All learners going for trials will be required to bring along their birth certificates. 

Kenya will be hosting the 2024 International Schools Federation World Schools Championship at Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi from  May 9 to 14.

The event is expected to attract over 500 children from 20 countries, born between 2006 and 2011.

Belio presided over the official launch of the forthcoming championships at Ngong Racecourse last Friday.

Belio thanked the ISF for nominating Kenya to host the 2024 World Schools Cross Country Championship.

“We feel privileged for this opportunity to be the first country in Sub-Saharan Africa to host the ISF World Cross Country Championship for Schools,” the PS said.

He said the launch of the event affirms further Kenya’s commitment to organise and ensure the success of the event.

Both boys and girls will take part in the event. Those under 12 years will run an average of 1.2km and those under 15 will run 2.5km. 

Those under the age of 18 will run a maximum of 5.5km.

The race for the girls will cover slightly less distance compared to the boys.

Slovakia hosted the ISF championships last year.
