This image shared on Facebook showing the front page of the October 26, 2023 edition of The Standard with a lead story titled “The lying President” is ALTERED.

The kicker highlights President William Ruto’s love for foreign trips which are seemingly not yielding corresponding results in the country’s economy.

The altered image further guides readers to turn to page 2 of the publication for the complete story.

The claim has also been shared here by another Facebook user.

However, the headline of the legitimate front page shared by the media house does not match the one under review.

The Star Fact-Checker confirmed with the e-paper version of The Standard and found out that the legitimate headline reads “The flying President” and not “The lying President”, as claimed.

The inconsistency in the spacing of words of the splash indicates that the image may have been digitally manipulated.

Other than the doctored headline, other stories on the fake front page are the same as those published on the legitimate front page of The Standard.
