Kitale prisoner escapes
A prisoner escaped on Friday from a Kitale prison while he had been assigned work on a maize crop at the prison. It is however not clear whether a prison warder that was looking after the prisoner was present during the incident. According to Deputy Officer in charge of the prison Geoffrey Gikeere, Geoffrey Kiplagat 25, the convict took advantage of the maize plantation as his escaping avenue.
Gikeere said, the escapee had been jailed for two years since April this year after he was found guilty of forgery. He said, in April, the culprit forged documents at the Kenya seed Company showing that he had paid for the seeds. “It seems Kiplagat had communicated to someone who may have brought him clothes because his prison attire was found in the maize plantation” said Gikeere. Gikeere urged members of the public with any information concerning the prisoner to report his whereabouts to any police station. The officer however urged the members of the public to dispel fears on loopholes that may cause the escaping of convicts saying officers at the prison are all alert.
