MPs asked to hasten commissioners’ appointment

Members of parliament have been challenged to fast-track the appointment of land commissioners so that they can quickly address land issues at the Coast. Phyllis Muema, the director of Kenya Community Support Center, said the region is the most hit by land issues which need to be addressed before the general elections to avert any election constraints. “We are happy that the bills have been enacted. But we want the legislatures to fast track the appointment of the land commissioners so that the process of addressing historical and present land injustices can be solved,” she said.

The activist pointed out that almost a fact she attributed to She attributed the secession calls by the Mombasa Republican Council to the fact that 85 per cent of Coastal are squatters. The director called on whoever will be appointed to chair the commission to put the interests of the public at heart.
