Keynan, Kapondi back county appointments

Two parliamentary committees chair have come to the defense the President's appointment of county commissioners. Defense and Foreign Relations Committee chairman Adan Keynan and Administration and National Security chairman Fred Kapondi said the government has the right to appeal the High Court's nullification. They said the government has a right to appeal the decision and accused some leaders of politicising security matters.
The MPs asked why appointments of county directors by other ministries have not been opposed. High Court judge Mumbi Ngugi declared the appointment of the 47 county commissioners by President Kibaki unconstitutional. She said the appointments were not gender sensitive adding that President Kibaki did not consult the PM before making the appointments. AG Githu Muigai has advised the ministry of Internal Security against making an appeal.
