Clean-up for 2013 peace

A public cleaning programme by schools is part of efforts to preach peace in Nanyuki. Environmental and peace clubs in various schools have began programmes meant to unify different communities in Laikipia. Yesterday, students from five secondary and primary schools and the Nanyuki Youth polytechnic engaged residents of Thingithu Estate in cleaning their compounds.

Speaking to journalists, patron of the Thingithu secondary school environmental and peace club Joseph Mwai said the initiative is aimed at bringing different communities together ahead of the next general election. “During the 2007 general elections, people rose against others and killed them. We want to ensure this does not occur again by participating in peace campaign,” said the Thingithu school teacher.
