Yesterday, police in Nairobi issued a fresh alerts over impending terror attacks by Al Shabaab militants. Nairobi police boss Antony Kibuchi yesterday said they had intelligence information regarding the plans by Al Shabaab to carry out attacks. “Al Shabaab are still issuing threats to cause massive destruction in the city,” Kibuchi said. He said police had credible information that some criminals may want to take advantage of the holy month of Ramadhan to attack Kenyans.

Muslims in the country yesterday officially begun fasting, which will take a month. “Let us all remain extra vigilant and whoever sights any suspicious character, strange vehicle with strange people or anything suspicious, to report to the nearest security personnel without delay,” Kibuchi said. Last month, police also warned that Al Qaeda terror group had joined Al Shabaab militants in their efforts to carry out criminal activities in Kenya.

Several grenade attacks have been witnessed in the country since the Kenya Defence Forces moved to Somalia to fight the terror groups. Kibuchi said they have heightened security across the city and especially at key installations where the terror groups might want to attack.
