The five Kenyan winners of the just concluded CNN MultiChoice Awards held in Lusaka, Zambia, were celebrated at a luncheon on Tuesday attended by top media executives and Information minister Samuel Poghisio. The winners, the Star’s John Muchangi, Citizen TV’s Tom Mboya, Waihiga Mwaura, Jepitha Mwangi and Evanson Nyaga (now with CCTV) and NTV’s Nimrod Taabu and Charles Kariuki were each awarded a one month DSTV subscription and a Sh10,000 credit card by NIC Bank.

Speaking at the luncheon, Radio Africa Group chairman Kiprono Kittony said the win goes to show “the excellence in journalism and Kenya is recognised as a leader in this respect.”

Poghisio reiterated the government’s efforts to “work at ensuring there is freedom of information to facilitate the job of journalists.” Mboya, who won the overall title, said his win “demonstrates that news anchors relish field work... this is a ticket for us to go out and position Africa as a beautiful continent.”
