Woman held over heroin

Police in Malindi are holding a woman who was  found with 186 sachets of heroine at Timboni area of Watamu over the weekend. The middle aged woman was arrested as she was trying to board a motorcycle by police, who were acting on a tip-off. The officers recovered the drugs worth Sh20,000. Malindi Police Boss Kiprono Lang’at confirmed the arrest saying the woman was believed to be a notorious drug trafficker operating in Dongokundu. Speaking in his office Langa’t said his officers have launched a manhunt for boda boda operator, who escaped arrest.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

“We arrested a middle aged woman after a tip off  from Members of the public at Timboni area of Watamu, she is now being held at the Watamu police station awaiting to be taken to court’’ he said.

The OCPD said the suspect would be arraigned in Court today to face charges of trafficking in narcotics drugs.

He thanked members of the public for helping the police with information that led to the arrest of the suspect and urged them to continue cooperating with security personnel in the war against drugs which has taken roots in the resort town.

The arrest comes a time when Anti drug crusaders and local leaders accused the government of failing to combat the illegal trade that led to loss of lives of innocent youths.

The Chairman of Malindi Maaruf Organisation Ali Athman Ali which is in the forefront in the campaign against drug abuse said the government need to commit itself fully in the war.

He also asked the government to declare drug menace as a national disaster for it had affected thousands of youths.

“The government needs to declare the drug trafficking a national disaster and everyone in the fight so as to prevent more loss of lives,’’ he said.

 

 Malindi is a renowned drug trafficking destination where the over Sh. 6.4 billion Cocaine haul was recovered a few years ago.

The most affected areas in drug trafficking are , Majengo, Mbuyukusema, Kisumundogo, Serena, Maweni, Muyeye, Shella, Sea breeze, and Timboni in Watamu.
