Teen killers escape jail

Three teenage gang members who set a house ablaze killing two children will serve seven years probation after the high court faulted their long custody during trial. The three who committed the offense in 2005, were released by Judge Anyara Emukule who said they were in remand during their seven year trial despite the Children's Act, making it illegal to hold children in remand facilities during trial.

Anthony Kinuthia, Gregory Mwangi and Ashford Onomo, who are now in their early twenties were convicted of the murder of Viz Tom Okeyo. Okeyo's sister who was also in the house during the incident was burnt beyond recognition and as such, the police could not prefer murder charges in her death as there was no body to be examined. The three committed the offense on April 20, 2005 at Mchanganyiko estate in Nakuru county.
