Captains sparkle as Kanbis and Coast hit cricket rivals

Superb knocks by captains Rakep Patel and Maurice Ouma earned Kanbis Tigers and Coast Pekee victories in the opening matches of the East Africa Premier League at Nairobi Club and Coast Gymkhana.Patel made an unbeaten 94 as Kanbis beat hosts Kongonis by 7 wickets while in Mombasa his Coast counterpart Ouma put on an unbeaten 100 as Coast registered a 65 runs win over Rift Valley Rhinos.

After Kongonis had put on 153 for the loss of 4 wickets, the courageous Kanbis captain remained calm under pressure to make the top score as the debutants reached 154 off 19 overs to win with six balls to spare.

In Mombasa, Ouma put on another captain’s knock as Coast made 168 for 2. Ouma shared an opening stand of 89 with Irfan Karim before Karim was run out on 28. In reply Rhinos only had David Obuya (44) and Joseph Onyango (28) as their batting order failed to contain Coast’s bowling.
