Campaign to develop towns launched

A campaign to involve residents of urban centres in their development has been launched. The Local Urban Torch Campaign in Collaboration with the Civil Society Urban Development Programme is aimed at cultivating urban ownership by the locals to develop and maintain investments during the realisation of devolve system of government. Speaking in Nakuru during the launch, Local Urban Torch coordinator George Wasonga said the campaign has established local urban forums to provide a platform for more than 900 civil society organisations to spearhead a process that seeks to stimulate popular public interest. “This will influence urban governance in order to guarantee an inclusive and equitable urban future,” he said. The launch was attended by investors, developers, political leaders and the business community.
