Rokoine and Indiza Among Top Players Expected at Nyali

FIFTY four Professionals parade at the Mombasa’s par 71 Nyali Country Club course for the four-day KCB Advantage Banking East African Tour Grand Finale starting today. They include Muthaiga’s Nicholas Rokoine, Dismas Indiza (Mumias), Simon Ngige (Thika) and Windsor’s resident pro Rizwan Charania. The event promises some fun especially with other activities lined up to coincide with the Grand Finale. Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) have also organised pro golf clinics at each event for upcoming golfing enthusiasts and Nyali will be an ideal setting for another exercise. “The course is playing very well at the moment and the greens are in very good condition. This is surely going to be a true test of golf, given the windy conditions we have already experienced. This are conditions that demand good ball striking.
There is no luck here, it’s purely ball striking and a very good shot game,” said Charania. The KCB tour has been played at various courses around the country, starting off in Thika, where Anil Shah of Royal emerged winner. The second leg was held in Muthaiga with Charania emerging top while Dismas Indiza won the third leg in Nyanza. The fourth round was staged at Royal Nairobi, where Thika’s Simon Ngige took a command. Rizwan clinched his second win of the series at Nakuru during the fifth leg. “This is the biggest number of Pros to participate in each of the tour legs since it kicked off in February this year,” PGK Captain Peter Njagi said. Kenya has entered a strong team of 33 professionals who will fight it out with 8 Ugandans, 9 Tanzanians, 2 Rwandese and G. Haile from Ethiopian.
Zambia is also expected to send a professional golfer to participate in the tournament, according to Professional Golfers Association of Kenya (PGK) Captain Peter Njagi. Ugandan team is being led by Deo Akope. So far 30 professional golfers and more than 100 amateurs have taken a shot at the top honours in the tour. PGK also organized pro golf clinics at each event for upcoming golfing enthusiasts.
