A new draft policy is proposing the creation of Child Labour Free Zones in the counties. The centres will fight child labour, which the government has identified as a great impediment to the realisation of Vision 2030. The draft policy, which was released by the Ministry of Labour, argue that Child Labour Free Zones have proved to be effective in the preventions, withdrawal, rehabilitation and reintegration of children engaged in child labour.

The policy proposes that the government first establish the zones in 10 counties and ensure each county has one by 2017.It said priority will be accorded to the counties with the highest prevalence of child labour. Children, teachers, parents, social workers, trade unions, community and faith-based groups and local county representatives will be involved in the fight.
