Mombasa-based universities clash in Coast league

Coast-based universities are scheduled to clash in the ongoing Coast Basketball League at the Kenya Ports Authority’s High Level courts in Mombasa. Kenyatta University welcomes the University of Nairobi in the morning at Court ‘B’ before paving way for another Oceaners to fight it out with Mombasa Polytechnic University College in the afternoon at the same venue. The event sponsored by the Coast Basketball Federation (CBF) has attracted five men’s and women’s teams with Kilifi-based Pwani University as the only team from outside Mombasa.

Other matches will pit Wazee against Tumaini Takers, Mtopanga Finest against Gorofani Raptors, Makupa Lakers take on Buxton Hawks, Congo Nets fight it out with Coastal Kings while Kiembeni Heats face Kisauni Kings. CBF chairman Ali Hilmy said the event started in May and is expected to be finalised in October. “We expect to conclude the tournament late October or early November with awards and trophy ceremony,” said Hilmy. Mombasa Baptist are the only team representing the secondary schools in the league that has caught the attention of various clubs from the Island county.
