You lost Konza to the state, ICT hub’s chief tells counties
The technical chairman of Konza technopolis has criticised leaders in Makueni and Machakos for fighting over its location Tom Luusa of the newly-created Konza Technopolis Development Authority has said the squabbles in the region may scare away investors. of Konza ICT Centre.
Speaking to journalist in Makueni at the weekend, Luusa said the leaders in the regions were criticising its development yet they have little information about the multi-billion project. He said the Konza ICT City no longer belongs to any county because it has already been taken over by the national authority like the New Lamu port project.
Last week, leaders from Makueni and Machakos expressed different views on the location of the proposed ICT city. “I am disappointed to read in the Star that the two counties are still fighting one another over the location of the Konza ICT. This ICT Centre is beyond council's Management because it is now under the National Authority Management," Luusa said.
In April, President Kibaki, through a gazette notice, placed the ICT city under the Konza Technopolis Development Authority. “People of Makueni and Machakos, please stop battling over this project, for your information it ceased to be a local thing the moment President Mwai Kibaki signed off its legality. Please understand that it is no longer under any council jurisdiction, it is a global investment beyond any county management,” he said. Luusa said the disagreements by the Machakos and Makueni councils' may scare away investors for the ICT centre.
