Nairobi student wins Elite Model Look competition
It was a full house at the Intercontinental Hotel in
Nairobi as guests assembled at its Mara North ballroom. They were all here to
see which model would be representing Kenya at
the 2011 Elite Model Look World Final. The
pageant is organised by Beauties of Africa which hosts the local franchise. Although
it’s in its first year in the country, the competition has been the stepping
stone into the modelling world for a number of former winners.
They included Heidi Klum, Giselle
Bundchen, Alessandra
Ambrosio, Linda
Evangelista among a host of
others who have graced catwalks the world over and peered at us from magazine
covers, TV, billboards and other media.
On
the panel of judges were beauty queens including Manasvi
Mamgai (Miss
India 2010), Carmine Martinez (Miss
EU), Rahel Debebe (Miss
Earth Ethiopia 2010), Fiona Konchellah (Miss
Kenya 2009), and Ruth Kinuthia (Miss
Kenya 2008). The chief judge was Stephane Pescimoro, the
International Director of Elite Model Look Paris, who was here to ensure that
everything went according to plan. The
evening’s winner was Michelle Daka, a 15-year-old Nairobi student
who stands at five feet nine inches or 175cm.
