Kenyan gets French National Order of Merit
The
French embassy in Kenya this year has seen much activity as the
mission saw it fit to recognise Kenyans who have contributed to
Kenyan development whilst fostering Kenyan and French ties in the
process.
Last Tuesday evening was the turn of Calvin Mbugua Kangara,
founding
member and chairman of Mathare Youth Sports Association and the Ongoza Njia Community Development Centre.
He was
awarded the Knight in the French National Order of Merit. The award
is similar to the Kenyan national awards like the Elder of the
Burning Spear (EBS).The Nairobian was accorded the honours for his
work with the communities Huruma and Mathare with the NGO community
as well as the French community.
The
event was graced by Kangara's proud family wife Mercy
Muthoni as well as their son
and daughter David
and June. The
festivities happened at the French Ambassador's resident in Kabarnet Gardens in Nairobi
and overseen by an uncharacteristically buoyant host Etienne
de Poncins.
