Pasara cafe auction halted

The owner of a popular restaurant in Nairobi yesterday obtained orders barring the trustees of the Kenya Commercial Bank pension fund from auctioning his property over an alleged rent dispute. Moez Charania, who owns Pasara Café and Bar, moved to court under certificate of urgency saying the KCB Staff Pension Fund Registered Trustees had threatened to levy distress over an alleged undue rent amounting to Sh972,773.
Charania said in the application that she has occupied the premises for 12 years and has been paying rent without delay as agreed in the lease. The proprietor says the paid the last rent for the month of September amounting to Sh298,491 but the landlord has allegedly instructed Garam Investments to auction his property.
