Malindi rogue hippo kills villager
Kenya Wildlife Service officers are searching for a rogue hippopotamus that reportedly attacked and killed a man at Mongotini Malimo village of Goshi location, Malindi district. The senior warden in charge at the Malindi Marine National Park, Isaac Mugo, said his officers have been unsuccessfully searching for the animal last five days.
He said game rangers have been instructed to kill the hippo if they come across it as it is a threat to people living near River Sabaki. The 40-year-old man, whose identity has not been revealed, met his death when crossing the river to his farm. Malimo ward councillor Hosea Haggai Chome said that the hippopotamus has been terrorising residents for a long time and called for its killing. ''KWS rangers officers have are unable to capture the animal since it keeps on moving from one place to another.'' He pointed out that the residents have ever since been forced to go home early for fear of being attacked by the rogue animal.
