Kenya girls set for Africa u-18 show
KENYA Under-18 girls team to the Africa basketball U-18 show has assembled in Mombasa ahead of the event set for next week in Senegal. Head coach Philip Onyango said only one player is yet to report to the camp although she is expected today. The Mombasa weather, he said is similar to the one in Dakar and thus the reason to put up the training there.
Kenya team qualified for the Africa festival during the Zone Five Championships held in July in Kigali, Rwanda where they beat the only team to bag the sole ticket. The boys lost heavily to the host and thus did not make it. Kenya will face tough competition from defending champions Egypt, host Senegal and Angola for the podium finish.
The runners up in the championships in 2010, Nigeria have pulled out, according to information posted on the Fiba Africa website. No reason has been given for their withdrawal from the tourney that throws off on September 20 in Dakar.
