Implement pay demands - doctors

Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has demanded the resignation of Kenya Medical Services director Francis Kimani. Union officials also claimed that the government was being disingenuous over its statement that the return-to-work formula signed last year has already been implemented.
In addition to the implementation of the return-to-work formula, the doctors have said they will not resume work until the government agrees to build at least one referral hospital in each of the 47 counties and implement the Musyimi Taskforce report. The key recommendations of the report released early this year include the disbursement of Sh62.87 billion by Treasury to improve the country’s health infrastructure.
Public hospitals across the country have been paralysed after doctors today downed their tools in a nationwide strike. Doctors at Kenyatta held a procession in front of the hospital earlier today while their counterparts in Rift Valley and Coast provinces held street demonstrations.
