Kiambu county graduates locked out of JKUAT

County representatives and aspiring MPs yesterday were forced to hold their graduation ceremony at Safari Park Hotel after striking lecturers from JKUAT blocked them from the graduation square. UASU vice chairman Joseph Mutuura Mberia said the graduands had been taught during the night as there was no business conducted during the day.
The lecturers marched to the gate where the officials of UASU and UTENSU addressed the lectures telling them to soldier on until the government addresses their demands. Nickson Chege who is the UTENSU secretary general JKUAT chapter said they will not allow any body to lecture in the university adding that the advert placed recently in newspapers calling on all lecturers to return to work should be ignored.
Mberia said even if it meant striking till next year they were prepared for any consequences. Among the graduands was Simon Ng'ang'a King'ara who is eyeing the Ruiru parliamentary seat come 2013. Kingara said the learning was very essential and that it will shape the kenyan politics to the new dispensation.
He said even councillors who have graduated will never exercise the politics of fighting using seats adding that they will practice whatever they have learned in the University. King'ara called on the government to address the plight of teachers, lecturers and doctors.
