2012 Rhino Charge raises over Sh84 million

The 2012 Rhino Charge in Il Ngwesi, Laikipia North District last week raised Sh84,627,119.33. This was Sh7.3million more than last year’s figure of Sh77.3 million. The event was won by Terry Childs (Braeburn Seven Squared) in car 49 with a distance of 47.6km. The course’s straight line distance was just less than 30-km. The clerk of the course, Anton Levitan said “it was a tough course and claimed many casualties. Of the 62 registered entrants, only 15 completed all 14 guard posts. The event proved to be one of the hardest charges because all the top cars did some of their routes on the road which normally doesn’t happen.”
Winner of the most prestigious Victor Ludorum — highest fund-raiser —was Alan McKittrick, who was placed 3rd overall in Car number 5. McKittrick’s team has been highest fundraiser for 10 years in a row. This year they raised Sh10,192,351. In a tough contest at the gauntlet, Peter Bonde-Nielsen (Team Garmin) in car 64 took the first position with a distance of 1.29 km. Second position went to Mahesh Bhatti in car 7 with a distance of 1.32 km. Third place was taken by Adil Khawaja (AK 44) in car 44 with a distance of 1.44-km. The modified vehicles category was won again by Terry Childs in car 49 who covered 14 posts with a distance of 47.678 km. Teresa Sapieha (Girls in Pearls) won the unmodified category coming 24th overall with a distance of 86.91km.
