Former national cricket team captain Jimmy Kamande’s third century in six matches made sure Mombasa Jeffery’s ran over Cutchi Leva Patel Samaj in their crucial coast 40 Overs league match at the Jaffrey Sports Club on Sunday. In other match, leaders Mombasa Sports Club survived a scare from Simba Union before winning by 3 runs at the Burhani Sports Club.

The hosts posted 209 all out in 34 overs and managed to bowl out the visitors on 172, thus winning the highly entertaining match by 37 runs. Electing to field, Jaffrey set an imposing target mainly due to Kamande, who dramatically changed gears after reaching 50 off 52 deliveries with five boundaries. Thereafter, he faced 30 more deliveries and smashed 61 runs studded with seven sixes and a four. In fact, some of his mistimed shots sailed over the ropes on his way to 112. Kamande’s belligerence put to shame useful contributions from Juma Abbas 32 and opener Mohammed Ali 17.
