Centre for autistic children launched
The National Fund for the Disabled of Kenya has set up a Sh2.3 million learning facility in Kitui for pupils with autism. The facility is located at the Kitui School for the Mentally Handicapped.
NFDK board chairperson Kristina Kenyatta-Pratt described said this is the first facility of this kind in the region. “We are proud to be part of this achievement,” she said. Pratt was accompanied by Kitui Senator David Musila, Kitui Central MP Makali Mulu and several members of her board.
She said she is confident that the facility will benefit learners with autism. Pratt said the special unit is empowering children with mental challenges to get an education. She said her organisation is committed to ensuring that persons with disabilities have a high quality life.
