Rivalry brews at Wiper offices
Wiper Democratic Party supporters in Machakos town are in confusion following the opening of two offices in the town by rival groups. The offices, which are about 30 meters apart, have started registering members.
Apparently, Machakos town MP Victor Munyaka is in support of the larger office located at the Mwatu wa Ngoma road and says the rival office was opened by members of NARC-Kenya and PICK who want to "cause confusion" in Ukambani.
Apparently, the smaller office which is located at Kamba Building, adjacent to the bus park, has all the party paraphernalia complete with a clock depicting the picture of party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and insist they are the genuine office. "We opened office first and it was only after that, that our rivals went ahead and opened a larger office but we are the ones registering the members' a lady at the Kamba building office told the STAR yesterday.
However, the larger office is the one recognized by top wiper leaders in the town including the MP, mayor Timothy Kilonzo and the lower eastern wiper party coordinator Dee Kivuva. "The other office was opened up by political brokers who do not belong to wiper and we are soon going to deal with the problem and have only one office," Kivuva said in Machakos town.
Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka was to open the bigger office at Mwatu wa Ngoma road today but it was postponed following the death of internal security minister George Saitoti and Orwa Ojode in a chopper crash on Sunday.
