Seafarers union disowns Mombasa forum
The Seafarers Union of Kenya has distanced itself from a meeting to discuss the affairs of Kenyan seafarers a week ago. The meeting was held at the Koblenz Hall off Moi Avenue under the Seafarers Solidarity Consultative Forum.
The meeting’s agenda was to discuss ways of strengthening the SUK and also find ways of reviving seafaring in the country. Seafaring has been dogged by internal politics that has seen huge differences between the seafarers represented by the SUK and dock workers represented by the giant Dock Workers Union. Yesterday, SUK general secretary Abubakar Omar said they had were not consulted or called for the meeting.
