IEBC asked to work with Registrar of parties.
Transparency International Kenya has challenged the registrar of political parties and the Independence Electoral Boundaries Commission to work in harmony in order to enhance transparency in political parties’ recruitment. TIK’s Governance and Policy Programme Officer Elijah Ambasa said if this is not done Kenya will still have weak political parties. He was speaking in Malindi during a public sensitization forum.
He said: “The main reason behind the enactment of political parties act was to strengthen parties but this is not the case for now because we have heard that some political parties registered people into their parties without their consent.” He said that political parties should be created using ideals. Adding that they should sell their policies to the public and let the people decide.
