Police in Mwatate have arrested a bodaboda operator who allegedly killed a man following an accident involving his motorcycle last week. The incident occurred at Mwatate town when the boda boda operator hit the man killing him instantly. Police identified the suspect as 25-year-old Gabriel Mwachombo who was also seriously injured during the accident. Mwachombo was arrested after police got wind that he was planning to flee and laid a trap for him.

The suspect was arrested at the Mwatate District Hospital where he had gone for a check up after he was discharged from the hospital. Witnesses said that Mwachombo was speeding along the Voi-Mwatate road when he rammed into a water vendor who was pushing a hand cart.

Police said that preliminary investigations had revealed that the suspect had flouted traffic rules.

A senior police officer in Wundanyi said that they laid the trap after a tip off. “His family was arranging for his escape to Eastern province but we managed to thwart their plans in good time, thanks to our cooperation with the wananchi," the police said. Police  said the suspect will be arraigned in court to face three charges: causing a fatal accident, riding without license and riding an uninsured motorbike.
