Taita Taveta county residents have dismissed allocations proposed by the Commission on Revenue Allocation saying the criteria is meant to impoverish marginalized areas.

They told a CRA meeting in Mwatate town that the weight given to the population parameter is too much and that the basic equalization share and poverty index should be considered more.

Area MP Dr. Naomi Shaban proposed the 60 percent parameter for population index be reduced to between 30 and 40. She also proposed the parameters for the basic equal share be increased from the current proposal of 20 to 60 percent.

The residents also proposed the regions productivity and topography be a criteria for funds allocation to county governments.

However, CRA dismissed the proposal saying such parameters cannot be considered for now since there are no official records in the government to prove the counties contribution to the national revenue. The meeting was chaired by commissioner Rose Osoro who was accompanied by Director Moses Sichei.
