Governments blamed for FGM
Workers in Bahati held a peaceful demonstration over delayed salaries. The more than 300 workers from Kinoru farm said they have been working under “harsh conditions” yet have not received salaries for the last two months.
They said their employer has been making false promises that he will pay them. Addressing the media during the demonstration, the chairman of the workers Samuel Mwangi, said it is regrettable that the workers live in a deplorable conditions yet they are employed. “We work under extreme harsh conditions,” he said
Mwangi said the workers are supposed to be paid after two weeks according to the employment contract. He said the employer has refused to register them with NSSF.
Mwangi said the employer has declined to turn up for the meetings to address their grievances.“They have been doing this for the last three years,” Mwangi said. The workers want the Ministry of Labour to intervene and help them get their pay.
