Kakamega High set for district games after successful build-up
Kakamega High School football team otherwise known as Green Commandos upset western provincial side, Boca Juniors 1-0 in a friendly match played at Malaba Township Primary School. The lone goal came in the 84th minute through Michael Gavochi whose shot from James Otwane’s deflection gave goalkeeper Suleiman Imai no chance.
Green Commandoes coach Brenden Mwinamo and team manager, Jairus Amayamu said they were using the match in preparation for the finals of the Kakamega District ball games finals this weekend at Kakamega High School. Kakamega, the 10-time national champions, will take on Shieywe in the semi-finals with Chebuyusi confronting Ingotse in the other semi. The two finalists will book a ticket for the regional finals scheduled for Kakamega High on July 13-15.
In a bid to clinch a place for the regional finals, Kakamega also played Premier League side, AFC Leopards in another friendly in Mumias drawing 2-2. They drew 2-2 with another provincial league side Busia United. Green Commandos are trying to qualify for the nationals and win back the national title which they last clinched in 2008. Commandos fielded defender Michael Wandera and midfielder Alphonce Ndonya who are in the under 20 national team.
