Motorist killed as car plunges into river on Embu-Mwea highway
A motorist died on Tuesday when the care he was driving lost control and plunged into a river. The accident happened at 7.30am at Nyamindi on the Embu Makutano highway.
Eyewitnesses said that the driver of the car driving from Kirinyaga to Embu tried to overtake another vehicle at the Nyamindi river bridge. He swerved to avoid a head on collision with an oncoming vehicle and plunged into the river, the witness said.
The witness said many people have died in accidents at the black spot. He said missing road signs make the spot dangerous to those who are not familiar with the terrain.
“If road signs are placed, no more lives will be lost,” said the witness. He said that the ministry of roads should move with speed and erect road signs and more bumps on the road to warn the drivers of the sharp corner and the bridge so as to help save the lives of people. The vehicle has been towed to Kerugoya police station.
