Blame NIS for crimes, says Atwoli
CENTRAL Organisation of Trade Unions Secretary General Francis Atwoli has said the National Intelligence Service is ineffective. He said the agency need to be empowered to handle complicated cases like the defunct Special Branch did.
Atwoli was speaking at the Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu yesterday. He said the increase in crime rate across the country is as a result of lack of vigilance on the part of the NSIS.
“The security lapse in the country can only be corrected if we reverted to the Special Branch unit,” Atwoli said. He said the NIS has only been engaged in information gathering rather than pre-empting crime.
“The NSIS work of gathering information is not different from Journalists’ work and I think it is important to have the special branch unit to curb increasing cases of insecurity in the country,” Atwoli said.
