Ministry gives Nyeri Sh30 million fire engine
NYERI Municipal Council has acquired a Sh30 million fire fighting engine. The vehicle was received by Nyeri Mayor Edward Muteru early in the week from the Local Government ministry. The Mann type engine will be launched next week by the mayor. “This is a very modern fire fighting machine which will be able to respond to disasters urgently. We are now more equipped to deal with emergencies. The truck will be serving all districts in Nyeri county,” he said.
The council had an old and obsolete engine which has occasionally been stoned by irate residents whenever it arrives late at fire scenes. The other one is a Land Rover which lacks the capacity to ferry sufficient water to put out a big fire. He said the personnel who will be handing the new engine had undergone a one-week training to build their capacity to respond to disasters. Nyeri County Council chairman Wachira Ken thanked the government for the fire engine saying it will safe lives and property whenever disasters strike.
Other towns which benefited with such engines which were flagged off by Local Government minister Fred Ngumo were Thika, Kakamega, Mandera, Nairobi and Mombasa.
