Five held after denying bhang haul charge

FIVE suspects arrested over a haul of bhang police found at a Nairobi upmarket residential area have been remanded. Eric Gitari Mawira, Samson Nzeke Nzioki, Leornard Mutisya, Joseph Kiemo Waithaka and Mary Nyambura Macharia were charged with two counts of drug possession in a Kibera court.

The court heard that On June 24 at Riara Lane in Dagoretti district they were found with 60 rolls of cannabis sativa. The second count stated that they were found with 1,000 grammes of the drug. The prosecution, while applying for further custody, said the suspects were arrested on a weekend and nothing much could have been done. The court gave police two more days to complete investigations. They are expected in court on Wednesday for a ruling on bond and setting of the trial date.
