Bomet municipality imposes parking fees

THE Bomet Municipal Council has introduced parking fees for vehicles in Bomet town to boost its revenue base. While reading budgetary allocation for 2012/2013 financial year, the council's finance chairman William Langat said they will start imposing fees on parked vehicles in the central business district from July 1.

Langat said the council’s proposal to charge parking fees on vehicles has been approved by the Ministry of Local Government and they are optimistic that the move will boost their revenue base. He said the charges will vary depending on the vehicles category. “We have different categories of vehicles like lorries, saloon cars, trucks and buses who intend to park their vehicles within the CBD. The parking fees will vary according to these categories,” Langat said. He said a boost in their revenue collection will enable the council improve service delivery to residents.
