Voi relief cooking oil truck hijacked

Police in Voi are looking for a lorry carrying relief oil that was stolen on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway at Bachuma gate area on Tuesday night. Taita OCPD Nathaniel Aseneka said the lorry that was transporting relief oil from Mombasa to Nairobi was commandeered by several armed thugs who had put a nails barrier on the road that punctured the tyres of another lorry that was also feryying relief oil to the city during the 10 pm incident.
''When the occupants of the Mitsubishi Canter lorry stopped to fix the puncture, several thugs armed with pangas emerged from the bushes and made away with Sh10,000, mobile phones and a wheel spanner from them. They then commandeered the other lorry that was coming from behind and turned towards Mombasa and left with the relief oil,'' said Aseneka.
He appealed to members of the public to volunteer information that may lead to the arrest of the thugs and the recovery of the lorry. "These are youth who hail from the area and are known to the people. We urge them to share information with us in order to ensure security on the highway," said the police boss, adding that investigations into the incident had been launched.
Meanwhile, Aseneka said that a Probox vehicle that had been stole at Buru Buru area in Nairobi on Tuesday morning had been recovered in Voi town. He said they had received a signal from their counterparts in Nairobi that the stolen vehicle had been spotted driving towards the area and lay a trap." By 7pm on Tuesday, we recovered the vehicle in Voi town and managed to arrest four suspects who were in the Probox, registration number KBP 624G, which is white in colour," he said.
The OCPD said the four suspects will be handed over to police in Buru Buru where the incident was reported. "We are waiting for our counterparts from Nairobi to come and take the vehicle and the suspects so that they can proceed with the case," said the police chief.
