A special sports extravaganza for schools with special needs will be held at the Mumias Sports Complex this Sunday. The event, organised by Mumias Sugar Company intends to bring together 34 schools with special needs from Western Kenya region as part of the company’s community social responsibility initiative.

Mumias Sugar corporate affairs officer, Athman Wangara, said a number of corporate institutions have focused so much on marathon, health, education and environment, ignoring disabilities, especially among the young children. “That is why as a company, we have decided to promote such children so that they too can expose their talents through favourable competitions,” said Wangara. The event will feature physically disabled, mentally challenged, deaf and visually impaired. “Our objective is to create public awareness on the existence of schools with special needs in our midst and strategise on how such institutions can be supported. Events on schedule include— football, sitting volleyball, leg ball and athletics among others.
