Caucus supports teachers strike

Trans Nzoia Professionals' Caucus has supported the recent threats by teachers to go on strike should the government fail to honour their salary increment pledge. Chairman, Henry Simiyu and Kiminini aspiring MP Chris Wamalwa who is a former chairman of the caucus said teachers were hardworking civil servants and deserve to be paid well.

They said teachers are demanding for a 300 percent salary increase and implementation of 1997 legal notice number 534 which contains teachers allowances. The two were speaking yesterday at Masaba Primary School in Kiminini during a church service for the burial of a teacher. KNUTon Monday asked teachers to prepare for a strike should the government fail to include funds for salaries, allowances and teacher recruitment in the budget.
