Highway gang abandons oil relief lorry
Police in Voi have recovered a lorry carrying relief oil that was stolen on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway on Tuesday night. The incident has sparked fears among those who use the road especially at night due to rising crime along the highway. Last week, a gang of four men armed with a pistol made away with Sh52,000 and Sh500,000 in US dollars from six passengers at Bachuma Gate.
The gang also made away with five mobile phones and the vehicle which was later recovered in Voi town by police. The Mitsubishi Canter lorry was ferrying relief oil to Nairobi when it was commandeered by the thugs armed with pangas after another lorry ahead punctured its tyres after nails barrier that had allegedly been put along the road by the suspects. Taita OCPD Nathaniel Aseneka said that the lorry was later found inside the park at Mackinon area some few kilometres from where it had been stolen.
