Players snub game to attend political rally

South Coast Provincial Zone ‘A’ match between visiting Nacet FC from Ukunda and hosts Veczular earlier planned for Sunday aborted after the hosts opted to attend for a political rally in the area.

Match officials as well as the opponents were left stranded at Veczular ground in Likoni for more than one hour as Veczular players chose to attend campaign rally addressed by Prime Minister Raila Odinga and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka at the historic Tononoka grounds.

The players who donned party T-shirts and caps were spotted in company of thousands of supporters who were cheering the speakers at the rally instead of chasing the ball in the field. FKF South Coast league and competitions vice chairman, Ismael Mohammed, who was also abandoned at the match venue along with match officials, was lost for words.

“As a branch, we shall take disciplinary action against the hosts for skipping the match without notice,” a shocked Ismael revealed. After waiting in vain for the opponents to turn up, Nacet FC were finally awarded a walk over by the match officials. In the Zone ‘B’ match played at Bilima, visiting Vimbwaga registered a narrow 1-0 victory over Mishomoroni United. Vimbwanga’s goal was scored by Shaban Mbauro after in the 33rd min from a penalty after Rashid Abresh was brought down inside the box.
