UDF shake-up stirs dispute

United Democratic Forum officials in Kakamega county have differed with politicians who defected to the party over the ongoing harmonisation of its structures. Party coordinator for Western province Edward Omung'ala yesterday said the harmonisation to come up with interim offices as directed by party headquarters two weeks ago is complete. But interim county secretary Raphael Welimo said delegates from all the 11 party sub-branches in the county will converge in Kakamega in two weeks' time to form a county office.

Welimo said all constituencies had formed their offices and should come together to form a team that will run the county activities starting with members registration. “The circular by the party on the process is clear that those to run its affairs are not politicians but these politicians are used to titles and that is why they are pushing to do things their own way,” said Omung'ala. “The lists are ready and we are only putting final touches. I am the only one authorized to co-ordinate the party activities. UDF does not do things the way others are doing,” he added.
