Luhya elders hunt for one candidate

THE Luhya Elders' Forum will meet the presidential candidates from the community to hammer out a deal for a single presidential candidates from the community ahead of the elections. The elders have given the three presidential aspirants from Bungoma county who resolved to work together at the weekend two weeks to agree on who among them should be the flag-bearer. “We shall then summon the candidate and Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi so that one of them agrees to support the other,” said chairman Patrick Wangamati yesterday.

Presidential aspirants Eugene Wamalwa, Moses Wetangula, Lands assistant minister Bifwoli Wakoli and Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo declared during the burial of mzee John Manguliech in Kimilili at the weekend that they will work together with an aim of backing a single candidate. Mudavadi who is to contest for the presidency on a UDF party ticket has stated that he is ready to engage in talks with fellow aspirants from the region for the sake of unity ahead of the elections. Wamalwa and Wetangula belong to New Ford-Kenya and Ford Kenya respectively while Jirongo who bolted from UDF is still party less.
