Man kills brother in family land dispute

A 43 year old man was on Sunday night hammered to death by his younger brother and his wife allegedly after a land dispute. Njagih Wairi with the help of his wife hit his brother Mwaniki Wairi  on the head with a hammer several times. The incident took place at Kyeniri village in Mbeere North district at around 9.30pm. Area Chief Ephantus Mwangagi Kibugi said the two have been in a long dispute over the family’s land which is pending in the Embu High court.

Kibugi said the court had ruled in favour of the deceased but his younger brother appealed. The appeal is to be heard in two weeks time. The brothers had a verbal confrontation on Sunday night which degenerated into a physical fight. During the fight the younger brother allegedly dashed into the house and came back with the hammer. The body was taken to the Embu Provincial Hospital mortuary for postmortem pending further investigations. The younger brother and his wife were arrested by to the police and they were being held at the Siakago police station pending arraignment in court.
