Cash guards protest fleecing by bosses

JUNIOR police officers in Mombasa have protested over what they termed as exploitation by senior officers. The officers accused their bosses of shortchanging them whenever they are posted to bank escort duties. “We are being exploited by our bosses who take part of our allowances when we are posted to bank duties. We receive only Sh150 instead of Sh500 that the bank gives. They pocket the remainder,” one of the police officers who declined to give his name for fear of reprisals said. “When we receive the Sh150 they say your bosses have taken the rest,” he said.

The officers accused their seniors from Mombasa of pocketing the money since police officers from other areas receive the full amount. However, Coast provincial police boss Aggrey Adoli said the officers should not be paid for duties they are expected to perform as police officers. "Every police officer is paid a salary. That takes care of the duties they are assigned," Adoli said.
