Port managers set for strike
The Kenya Ports Management Workers Union yesterday said it will not call off the Wednesday strike.
The union's secretary general George Olang’ said the strike will go on despite assurances by the port management that they will get their pay increment today.
Olang’s said he will only call off the strike after he sees a circular confirming the salary increment. The committee appointed by Transport minister Amos Kimunya to look into the matter resolved to award the managers a pay increment on Friday afternoon.
KPA boss Gichiri Ndua last Wednesday condemned the planned strike saying the manner through which the mid-level managers are pushing for their pay rise is not right. A salary increment for the Kenya Ferry Services employees was also approved at the Friday meeting.
