A colourful Samburu Cultural night

The Carnivore restaurant in Nairobi last Saturday was home to
the first ever Samburu cultural night. The name Samburu is derived from
the word Sampirpir which means butterfly in reference to their beauty and love of colour. The
night saw the Samburu showcase their rich culture in dressing and
unique entertainment which involved people singing and dancing
accompanied by minimal instruments. Different foods including fresh and
sour milk, nyama choma, traditional meat, liver, tripe and porridge were available.
Speaking during the occasion, emcee and event coordinator Kenyatta National hospital CEO Richard Lesiympe thanked the community for its good and beautiful people while urging them to support girl child education. “Let's all support our beautiful ladies pursue their higher education for a bright future,” Lesiyampe said. The proceeds of the event will go towards boosting education in Samburu County. Present during the occasion was also legislator Nkoidila Ole Lankas and Head of State awarded journalist Naisula Lesuuda.
