Nurses to sue government for hospital deaths
Kenya National Union of Nurses representative Seth Panyako has said that the union will sue the government for all the deaths that will have resulted from the strike.
He said this after a meeting with the Parliamentary Select Committee on health. He further added that the National Labour Board has failed in its mandate to duly advise the government on the best way to resolve the nurses’ strike.
The Kenya National Union of Nurses has been advised to carry on consultations with other government ministries so as to find a way to resolve the current stalemate that has seen the ongoing nurses strike enter its fifth week.
The PSC was not willing to commit to any tangible solutions as the secretariat, Alice Otwala was not available today but will be reporting to work on Monday.
The nurses have been on strike for over four weeks now and have stated that they will not return to work until their grievances are addressed.
An industrial court on Friday last week ruled that the nurses have a right to form a union through which they can air their grievances. Additionally, judge Marete ruled that the nurses are within their rights to strike for which they should not be victimised.
